“Ðây là ngày Chúa đã lập ra, chúng ta hãy mừng rỡ hân hoan về ngày đó” (Tv 118, 1-2)
Jesus resurrected from the death.
To understand the joy of Easter, we need to compare the two apostles’ attitudes: before and after Christ’s event. During Christ’s Passion and Death, most of his apostles ran away from him because they were afraid of the Sandherin. After Jesus’ resurrection, they were completely changed, their hopelessness were replaced with the joy of Jesus’ resurrection. All past events were seen through their lenses of the resurrected Jesus.
Today readings concentrate on the witnesses of the mystery of the resurrection and the Good News which the witnesses proclaimed. In the first reading, St. Peter, from a timid person who denied Jesus three times in his Passion, now courageously witnessed for Jesus before all people, including the Sanhedrin. The power that changed Peter was Jesus’ resurrection. Peter believed that if Jesus died and resurrected, and God’s power gloriously triumphed over worldly power, there is nothing to worry about. In the second reading, the author of the Letter to the Colossians reminded the faithful about the result of the mystery of the resurrection. They are carrying in themselves the life of Christ’s resurrection; this life demands them to always look for the lasting values of the heavenly kingdom, not only be content with the passing values of this world. They must live in a way that they shall be resurrected with the resurrected Christ. In the gospel according to St. John, Mary Magdalene went out to visit Jesus’ tomb in the early morning when the sky was still dark. When she saw the empty tomb, she went back and announced to the apostles that someone had taken Jesus’ body away. Then both Peter and John ran to the tomb; they saw and believed what Jesus announced to them before his death.

Để hiểu niềm vui của Tin Mừng Phục Sinh, chúng ta cần so sánh hai thái độ của các tông đồ: nỗi thất vọng của các ông khi phải đối diện với Cuộc Thương Khó và cái chết của Chúa Giêsu; các ông đã sợ hãi và bỏ trốn hết vì sợ liên lụy: Chúa chết hết truyện. Nhưng nỗi thất vọng của các ông được bừng lên thành niềm hy vọng của Ngày Phục Sinh: vì Chúa sống lại, mọi biến cố của quá khứ cùng sống lại, được nhìn và mang ý nghĩa với Chúa Phục Sinh.
Các Bài Đọc hôm nay tập trung vào các nhân chứng của Mầu Nhiệm Phục Sinh và Tin Mừng họ làm chứng và rao giảng. Trong Bài Đọc I, Phêrô, từ một con người chối từ Chúa 3 lần trong Cuộc Thương Khó của Ngài, giờ can đảm làm chứng cho Chúa Giêsu trước mặt mọi người. Điều đã cải biến ông là Tin Mừng Phục Sinh: Nếu Chúa Giêsu đã chết và đã sống lại, quyền lực thế gian đã không thắng nổi quyền lực Thiên Chúa, chẳng còn gì để sợ hãi nữa. Trong Bài Đọc II, tác giả Thư Côlossê nhắc nhở cho các tín hữu biết hậu quả của Mầu Nhiệm Phục Sinh mang lại: Họ mang trong mình mầm sống của Đức Kitô Phục Sinh; mầm sống này đòi hỏi họ phải luôn biết tìm kiếm những giá trị vĩnh cửu của Nước Trời, đừng chỉ bằng lòng với những giá trị của hạ giới là của thế gian này. Họ phải sống làm sao để có ngày được cùng sống lại với Chúa Kitô phục sinh. Trong Phúc Âm, Bà Maria Magdala ra thăm mộ Chúa từ sáng sớm khi trời còn tối; Bà không tìm thấy xác Chúa nên vội chạy về báo cho các môn đệ biết. Phêrô và Gioan, khi biết được, đã vội vã chạy đến mộ. Các ông thấy và các ông đã tin những gì Chúa tiên báo trước khi Ngài chịu chết.

We are witnesses of all that he did
both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.
They put him to death by hanging him on a tree.
This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible,
not to all the people, but to us,

Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.
When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.
For they did not yet understand the Scripture
that he had to rise from the dead.

to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus,
and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred.

"What are you discussing as you walk along?"
They stopped, looking downcast.
One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply,
"Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem
who does not know of the things
that have taken place there in these days?"
And he replied to them, "What sort of things?"
They said to him,
"The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene,
who was a prophet mighty in deed and word
before God and all the people,
how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over
to a sentence of death and crucified him.
But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel;
and besides all this,
it is now the third day since this took place.
Some women from our group, however, have astounded us:
they were at the tomb early in the morning
and did not find his body;
they came back and reported
that they had indeed seen a vision of angels
who announced that he was alive.
Then some of those with us went to the tomb
and found things just as the women had described,
but him they did not see."
And he said to them, "Oh, how foolish you are!
How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke!
Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things
and enter into his glory?"
Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets,
he interpreted to them what referred to him
in all the Scriptures.
As they approached the village to which they were going,
he gave the impression that he was going on farther.
But they urged him, "Stay with us,
for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over."
So he went in to stay with them.
And it happened that, while he was with them at table,
he took bread, said the blessing,
broke it, and gave it to them.
With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him,
but he vanished from their sight.
Then they said to each other,
"Were not our hearts burning within us
while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?"
So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem
where they found gathered together
the eleven and those with them who were saying,
"The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!"
Then the two recounted
what had taken place on the way
and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.

Anh em hãy nghĩ đến những sự trên trời, chứ đừng nghĩ đến những sự dưới đất. Vì anh em đã chết, và sự sống anh em được ẩn giấu với Ðức Kitô trong Thiên Chúa. Tin Mừng Chúa Giêsu Kitô theo Thánh Gioan.
Ngày đầu tuần, Maria Mađalêna đi ra mồ từ sáng sớm khi trời còn tối và bà thấy tảng đá đã được lăn ra khỏi mồ, bà liền chạy về tìm Simon-Phêrô và người môn đệ kia được Chúa Giêsu yêu mến, bà nói với các ông rằng: "Người ta đã lấy xác Thầy khỏi mồ, và chúng tôi không biết người ta đã để Thầy ở đâu". Phêrô và môn đệ kia ra đi đến mồ. Cả hai cùng chạy, nhưng môn đệ kia chạy nhanh hơn Phêrô, và đến mồ trước. Ông cúi mình xuống thấy những khăn liệm để đó, nhưng ông không vào trong. Vậy Simon-Phêrô theo sau cũng tới nơi, ông vào trong mồ và thấy những dây băng nhỏ để đó, và khăn liệm che đầu Người trước đây, khăn này không để lẫn với dây băng, nhưng cuộn lại để riêng một chỗ. Bấy giờ môn đệ kia mới vào, dù ông đã tới mồ trước. Ông thấy và ông tin, vì chưng các ông còn chưa hiểu rằng, theo Kinh Thánh, thì Người phải sống lại từ cõi chết.
Ðó là lời Chúa.
Suy Niệm:
Sự chết và Phục Sinh của Ðức Giêsu đều nằm trong kế hoạch cứu độ của Thiên Chúa. Kinh Thánh đã tiên báo về Ngài. Ðức Giêsu chết để nhân loại chôn vùi tội lỗi cùng với cái chết của Ngài. Ðức Giêsu Phục Sinh để sự sống Thần Linh của Ðức Giêsu sống động trong tâm hồn mọi người. Ðức Giêsu Phục Sinh đã tái lập sự sống mới trên trần gian. Sự sống mới là sự sống chan hòa yêu thương. Vì tình yêu đã chiến thắng hận thù. Sự đen tối của màn đêm phải lui xa, nhường lại thế giới cho ánh bình minh tươi sáng. Khởi đầu một ngày mới, một trời mới đất mới xuất hiện. Trong niềm hân hoan chúng ta reo vui. Alleluia.
Cầu Nguyện:
Lạy Ðấng Phục Sinh, xin đem niềm vui đến trong tâm hồn chúng con. Chúa đã chết để đem sự sống mới cho chúng con. Xin đừng để chúng con mải mê ngủ vùi trong tội lỗi, nhưng biết vùng dậy để đón mừng Mặt Trời Công Chính tươi sáng chiếu rọi vào tâm hồn chúng con. Cùng với Ðức Giêsu Phục Sinh, chúng con reo vui cuộc chiến thắng khải hoàn. Amen. Alleluia.
