Announcement from office of the Bishop:

Recent news reports from our sisters and brothers in Louisiana reveal unbelievable loss due to the massive floods which have impacted that area. Stories of individuals and families who have lost everything are heart-wrenching. We are all called to respond in every way possible as we reach out to those whose in need. It is important that we continue to hold in prayer all of those whose homes have been destroyed, all who have lost loved ones in the flooding and the local communities of faith who are providing direct support to them. In addition, I join Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, in appealing to your generosity in offering financial support to those in need. The special collection will be taken up in the parishes of the Diocese of Des Moines on September 24th and 25th. The need is great. As always, I know that you will respond with generous hearts to support all of those suffering the devastation of the Louisiana floods. May God bless you and all of those who will benefit from your gift of money and prayerful support.
